GORDO BANKS DIVING
The Gordo Banks near Cabo San Lucas are legendary
for their seasonal schooling of hammerhead sharks and whale sharks,
as well as massive pelagics like marlin, sailfish, and tuna.
Dolphins and mammoth manta rays are also frequent sightings here,
as are huge schools of mackerel and other baitfish.
The Gordo Banks rise to within
110 feet of the surface about eight miles off the tip of the Baja
Peninsula. The summit of the bank is a dark maze of canyons and
rocky spires covered with a dense forest of small gorgonian corals.
Dive Site: This is
an advanced dive for experienced divers that can feature strong
currents at times. Average depths are between 110 and 130
feet.

OUR ADVICE:
There is no other
site in the Baja that features as many pelagics as the Gordo Banks.
If big game fish like marlin and tuna, as well as whale sharks, hammerhead
sharks, and dolphins sounds like a good time to you, then Gordo
Banks may be for you.
HOWEVER
This dive is for
experienced divers only. If you're not sure if you are experienced enough for
this dive, then you probably aren't. We recommend Cabo Pulmo
instead.
